Florida Hospital has teamed up with Walt Disney to create the Walt Disney Pavilion at Florida Hospital for Children. This pavilion is part of a $65 million expansion to increase the total number of pediatric beds from 155 to 200 and add a wide range of destination pediatric programs, the Nicholson Center for Advanced Pediatric Surgery, and a dedicated pediatric Emergency Department.
The pavilion (pictured below) was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering and is described as an innovative, child-centric environment. The pavilion will include characters from Disney classics like the Little Mermaid, Lion King and the Jungle Book. The 15,000 square-foot pavilion includes a new entrance, lobby, and three-level atrium for pediatric and women’s services. The pavilion will include imagination stations and creative centers for kids to play, which in turn speeds their recovery.
Our Florida Hospital heroes get a sneak peak of the new pavilion before it opens to the public on March 11. I will be sure to include pictures of the employee event lobby opening next week.
The Pediatric Emergency Department opened in fall 2008 and is 10,000 square feet with nine private treatment rooms, interactive child-friendly technology, and Philips Ambient Experience lighting. Below are a few pictures of the new Peds ED including examples of the serene interactive lighting in the rooms.
